UNICAMP is a young university considered by the Quacquarelli Symonds as one of the “top 50 under 50” universities in the world (22nd in 2012). According to the Times Higher Education (THE), UNICAMP is also one of the “top 100 under 50”, (44th in 2012). UNICAMP was created in 1966 to be a world class academic institution with strong research programs. For the past 15 years Dr. I.L-C has been involved, together with Dr. Fernando Cendes (F.C.), in the creation of an epilepsy center to offer high quality clinical care to patients as well as state-of-the-art research facilities. Both, Drs. I.L-C and F.C were trained at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI). In addition, Dr. I.L-C obtained molecular genetics training in Dr. Guy Rouleau´s laboratory (currently Dr. Rouleau is the director of the MNI), where she began to work on genetics of epilepsy and other neurological disorders. More recently, Dr. I.L-C has helped UNICAMP to establish a DNA sequencing facility (www.lactad.unicamp.br/), based on next-generation sequencing techniques which is offering services for the entire country as well as other countries in Latin America. Dr. I.L-C is recognized internationally for her expertise in the study of the genetic aspects of epilepsy and other neuropsychiatric/complex disorders (Total number of publications:159, total number of citations: 5134, h-index:35).
